The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a notice to the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and other relevant authorities, directing them to clarify their non-compliance with orders to halt the discharge of untreated sewage into the Yamuna River from Vrindavan and Kosi towns in Uttar Pradesh.
The NGT bench, headed by Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava alongside experts A Senthil Vel and Afroz Ahmad, revisited a plea concerning the execution of its directives from December 2021. These directives mandated the enhancement of sewage-treatment facilities and planting initiatives to safeguard the river.
Advocate Akash Vashishtha represented Vijay Kishor Goswami, who raised concerns about the river's significance and current unfit conditions for public use. The NGT emphasized the prolonged delay in executing its instructions and has scheduled further discussions for August 4, urging responses from multiple state and central agencies.
