Delhi's Green Shield: New Measures to Protect Trees

The Delhi government has taken a firm stance to protect the city's green cover by introducing a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) designed to address offenses related to trees. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that any breach of tree protection laws will face strict consequences.

According to an official statement from the Chief Minister's Office, this SOP introduces a systematized approach aiming to prevent, detect, and prosecute illegal activities concerning trees. The Department of Forests and Wildlife, under the guidance of Section 33 of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994, has empowered officials with enhanced responsibilities.

The new measures include rapid response mechanisms that allow citizens to report violations via a toll-free helpline, an online portal, or through offline means. Quick Response Teams and control rooms will ensure immediate action and continuous enforcement, backed by a 24/7 monitoring system. The initiative aligns with PM Modi's vision of fostering development in harmony with nature.
