Cyclone Montha Wreaks Havoc in Andhra Pradesh with Heavy Rains and Crop Damage

Cyclone Montha struck the Andhra Pradesh coast past midnight on Tuesday, resulting in two fatalities and extensive damage to standing crops over 1.50 lakh acres. Despite the destruction, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu affirmed that precautionary measures significantly reduced the potential impact.

Following its landfall near Antarvedi village, Montha quickly weakened into a deep depression, affecting regions such as Bapatla, Palnadu, and Eluru districts. Naidu surveyed impacted areas and distributed essential supplies to evacuees, including rice and a cash stipend.

Efforts to restore services remain underway, with the National and State Disaster Response Forces actively working to clear debris and repair infrastructure. Meanwhile, heavy rains continue to affect Telangana, where state officials are focused on minimizing agricultural losses and maintaining public safety.
