Severe cyclonic storm 'Montha' has left a trail of destruction across Andhra Pradesh, damaging crops over an expanse of 87,000 hectares and ravaging infrastructure, including 380 kilometers of roads and 14 bridges.
In a briefing to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, authorities reported the cyclone's severe impact on agriculture, with crops like paddy, maize, cotton, and black gram destroyed in 304 mandals. Additionally, 59,000 hectares remain waterlogged, affecting nearly 78,796 farmers.
The financial toll includes road and bridge damages estimated at Rs 1,424 crore and disruptions to rural water infrastructure costing Rs 36 crore. Relief efforts are underway, accommodating evacuees in over 1,209 centers, shifting 3,175 pregnant women to safety, and establishing 2,130 medical camps.
