Monitoring Officers, drawn from the IAS cadre, have been assigned to the districts facing heavy rain alerts. According to B Amudha, Director at the Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai, a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and might evolve into a cyclone. The system is currently about 400 km from Chennai.
Amidst the downpour, agricultural sectors in areas like Tirunelveli have suffered significantly with disrupted paddy harvesting.
