In the wake of a weekend stabbing incident in Podgorica, Montenegro, tensions have escalated as authorities moved swiftly to detain dozens of Turkish and Azeri nationals. The incident involved the stabbing of a Montenegrin man by a group of Turks, a confrontation that has since spiraled into broader violence.
Local residents retaliated by vandalizing vehicles with Turkish plates and forcing some Turks to seek refuge in a casino. A Turkish-operated restaurant in central Podgorica was also targeted, broken into and set on fire, further intensifying diplomatic concerns.
Following these events, Montenegro's government announced a temporary visa suspension for Turkish nationals, seeking further discussions with Ankara. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has already expressed concerns, emphasizing the need for the protection of Turkish citizens in Montenegro.
