West Bengal is bracing for significant rainfall as Cyclone Montha approaches, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed. The cyclone, currently over the Bay of Bengal, is predicted to hit land near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh by Tuesday night, escalating into a severe storm.

The Met has urged fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along the West Bengal coast until Thursday. In addition, there is a warning of potential landslides in the hilly districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, alongside waterlogging threats in the plains.

South Bengal will experience light to moderate rainfall, while regions such as North and South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, and others are likely to face heavier rains. North Bengal districts including Darjeeling and Kalimpong could see rainfall up to 20 cm, as per IMD advisories.
