The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning as Cyclone Montha is predicted to intensify into a 'Severe Cyclonic Storm.' The cyclone is projected to strike the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam during the evening and night of October 28.
Traveling north-northwestwards, the cyclone is expected to reach severe intensity by the morning of October 28, crossing the coast with wind speeds of 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph. This development was confirmed by IMD on Monday as they monitored the cyclone's progress over the Bay of Bengal.
The cyclone's approach has already led to anchored boats at significant coastal locations and disrupted train services for safety precautions. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea, while heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecasted for the coming days until conditions are expected to ease after October 29.
