Tamil Nadu achieved a historic milestone during its Assembly elections, exceeding its previous highest voter turnout record. On Thursday, over 80 percent of the state's 5.73 crore electors participated in the polls across 234 constituencies, according to Election Commission data.

The turnout reached 82.24 percent, surpassing the 2011 record when AIADMK dominated. Notably, voter roll revisions reportedly reduced eligible electorates to 5.73 crore from 6.41 crore in October 2025, even though 2021 saw about 6.29 crore registered voters.

Salem led with an 88.02 percent turnout, while Chennai recorded 81.34 percent. Key constituencies like Kolathur and Edappadi saw high participation as prominent leaders, including DMK's M K Stalin and AIADMK's Edappadi K Palaniswami, contested their strongholds.
