On Monday, BJP Mahila Morcha President Daisy Thakur lambasted opposition parties for voting against a constitutional amendment bill aimed at hastening the implementation of a women's quota law. Describing the day of the bill's defeat as a 'black day in democratic history,' she accused Congress of viewing women merely as vote banks without offering genuine empowerment.
Thakur's statements were made during the Jan Aakrosh Mahila Padyatra in Shimla, a protest organized by the BJP Mahila Morcha. Thousands of women joined the rally, capturing widespread support. BJP leaders, including state president Rajeev Bindal and others, voiced strong criticism against Congress, claiming that the women's reservation law is a historical step being blocked for political reasons.
Additional allegations came from MLA Reena Kashyap, who noted intentional state interference to hinder rally participation. Despite these roadblocks, BJP officials see the event as a catalyst for significant political change, asserting that women will shift the political landscape through democratic means in upcoming elections.
