West Bengal set the stage for a gripping electoral battle as the first phase of the assembly elections recorded an 18.76% turnout within the first two hours. Polling commenced at 7 am across 152 constituencies under tight security arrangements.
Bankura led with the highest turnout, while mechanical issues at select booths, such as EVM glitches, temporarily disrupted the process. Sanjoy Adhikari of Congress faced hurdles in casting his vote due to these issues, raising demands for extended polling hours or repolls.
This election is pivotal for BJP's growth in the state and Trinamool Congress's aim for a fourth term. With high-security measures in place, and further phases scheduled, the political atmosphere remains tense yet hopeful.
