In a dramatic turn of events, tensions soared in Nandigram, West Bengal, as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleged police partiality towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) amid ongoing assembly polls. State minister Shashi Panja accused police personnel of favoring BJP interests, following a formal complaint lodged with Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal.
Suvendu Adhikari, the Opposition Leader, countered these claims by alleging TMC-backed goons were intimidating voters. He identified a murder accused freely threatening Hindu voters, asserting his presence in the constituency aimed at combating criminal activities rather than communal divides.
As polls commenced across 16 districts, robust security arrangements were in place. Adhikari, while seeking re-election and contesting against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, lauded the Election Commission's efforts in maintaining peace during the voting process. The political spotlight remains firmly on Nandigram.
