In West Bengal, Thursday's first phase polling was largely peaceful, as reported by CPI(M) Secretary Md Salim. He criticized the Election Commission's handling of sporadic scuffles.
Salim expressed concerns over a reported incident where a BJP candidate was allegedly manhandled by Trinamool supporters, urging greater vigilance from authorities.
Despite these issues, West Bengal saw a strong voter turnout of 41% by 11 am, with polling determining the fate of 1,478 candidates in the Assembly elections.
