BJP Aims for 'Tsunami' Win: West Bengal Elections Stir Political Wave

The first phase of polling in the West Bengal assembly elections commenced with BJP leader Locket Chatterjee expressing strong confidence in her party's anticipated victory. Speaking to ANI, Chatterjee praised the Election Commission for conducting the polls smoothly and stated that a 'BJP tsunami' is sweeping through North Bengal. The public desire for change, she asserted, is palpable, envisioning a BJP-led government soon.

Chatterjee addressed allegations of violence in Kumarganj, where BJP candidate Subhendu Sarkar claimed to have been attacked by TMC workers. Emphasizing law and order, she expressed confidence that the Election Commission would take strict action against any misconduct. Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, inspected potentially volatile voting booths in his Nandigram constituency, claiming restricted access to one booth.

Adhikari, contesting against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, cast his vote as he urged for peace and proactive measures against instigators. Despite minor disruptions, early voter turnout is robust, with the Election Commission reporting 41.11% participation by 11 am. Paschim Mednipur exhibited the highest turnout at 44.68%, while Malda recorded the lowest at 38.22%. The election outcome will be determined with the vote counting on May 4.
