During the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP candidate Dibyendu Adhikari cast his vote in Kanthi Dakshin, subsequently voicing concerns over electoral violence. Adhikari highlighted West Bengal's distinctiveness, citing its pre-poll violence compared to other states, and urged the Election Commission to guarantee free and fair elections.
Adhikari further commented on the state's election dynamics, stressing the need for voter vigilance against disruptions. He advised electors to report any severance of order, like minor power cuts, to appropriate authorities, expressing satisfaction with the security setup. Simultaneously, electoral tensions were evident as clashes erupted in Murshidabad.
The high-voltage electoral contest pits the incumbent Trinamool Congress, seeking a fourth term led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, against a resurgent BJP keen on forming the government following their prior strong performance. The first election phase spans 152 of the total 294 Assembly constituencies, with results due on May 4.
