Harshwardhan Sapkal, the Maharashtra Congress president, has criticized the BJP's stance on women's reservation, challenging the party to renounce its ideological texts, such as the Manusmriti. Sapkal accused the BJP of leveraging women's issues for political advantage while ignoring deeper societal prejudices.
The Congress leader highlighted historical efforts by his party to support women's empowerment, mentioning the introduction and increment of women's reservation in local bodies to 50 percent. Sapkal also accused BJP workers of threatening journalists who filmed a woman confronting a BJP minister.
He addressed alleged misrepresentations of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's remarks, calling out the BJP for complaints to the Election Commission while urging the poll body to consider BJP's electoral actions in states like Tamil Nadu and Assam.
