Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, the former Chief Minister who once challenged the political status quo in undivided Andhra Pradesh, died at the age of 90. Rao, known for his bold coup against TDP founder N T Rama Rao in 1984, had been receiving treatment for age-related ailments at a local super-speciality hospital.

Despite his short tenure as Chief Minister, lasting only a month before Rama Rao reclaimed power through a 'Save Democracy' movement, Bhaskar Rao's influence in politics remained significant. His son, Nadendla Manohar, a prominent Jana Sena leader, is the current Civil Supplies Minister in Andhra Pradesh.

Having later rejoined the political arena through the Lok Sabha in 1998 on a Congress ticket, Bhaskar Rao shifted alliances to the BJP in 2019 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. His remains will be available for final respects at his Jubilee Hills residence, with last rites scheduled for April 24 in Hyderabad.
