The Union Minister Sanjay Seth lambasted opposition parties for their role in the 'mahapaap' — the defeat of a Constitution Amendment Bill aimed at granting 33% reservation for women in legislatures by 2029 and increasing Lok Sabha seats to 816.

Out of 528 members, 298 voted in favor while 230 opposed, missing the required 352 votes for a two-thirds majority. The bill's defeat on April 17 was branded a 'black day' by Seth, with vows of retribution in upcoming democratic processes.

Seth expressed disappointment over the opposition's celebrations, calling it a betrayal of women's rights. Meanwhile, he refrained from commenting on the conflict involving two Indian-flagged vessels under Iranian military fire.
