Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi asserted on Tuesday that the party has effectively navigated through the Centre's alleged efforts to sow 'confusion' and 'intimidation' ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Among the contentious issues are the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and purported raids. Kanimozhi remains steadfast in her belief that the DMK will reclaim victory in the elections, ensuring Chief Minister MK Stalin's return to power.
Highlighting acts of 'unnecessary intimidation,' Kanimozhi spoke of raids targeting several individuals across Tamil Nadu. She emphasized DMK's proactive stance in countering these challenges, stating, 'Certainly, we will form the government. I firmly believe that the DMK alliance will secure victory.'
In a show of political resilience, CM MK Stalin embarked on a morning walk campaign in Chennai's Kannagi Nagar. Drawing significant public support, the event marked the final day of election campaigning. Local residents turned out in large numbers to engage with the Chief Minister, expressing their support for the DMK's leadership.
Earlier, Stalin critiqued the Centre's proposed delimitation exercise, framing it as punitive towards progressive states like Tamil Nadu. He linked the exercise to broader issues of population control and industrial success, which he believes the state models effectively. Recent parliamentary roadblocks have stalled delimitation reforms as the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill failed to achieve the necessary majority vote.
With Tamil Nadu set to vote on April 23, the political landscape sees the DMK-led alliance facing the NDA, spearheaded by AIADMK's Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Stalin's rhetoric gained momentum as he accused the BJP-led Union Government of introducing the delimitation bill to 'punish' Tamil Nadu's progress. He revealed his immediate opposition to the bill, which he claims was 'reduced to ashes' following protests he led, including symbolic acts such as burning copies of the controversial legislation.
The elections in Tamil Nadu will conclude on April 23, with results expected to be declared on May 4.
