Samajwadi Party leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Dimple Yadav have openly criticized the central government for its handling of women's reservation and constitutional procedures regarding census and delimitation. During a press briefing, Akhilesh Yadav reaffirmed the party’s support for women's reservation, underscoring that the opposition did not oppose the initiative.
Dimple Yadav accused the government of failing to comply with constitutional mandates for conducting a census and subsequent delimitation, alleging missteps intentionally contrived by the BJP. She suggested these tactics aimed to undermine the unanimous passage of the Women's Reservation Bill by the opposition in 2023.
Highlighting women's issues, the Yadavs pointed to concerns about inflation, education, and security under a BJP regime perceived as anti-women. Samajwadi's Iqra Hassan clarified misconceptions around parliamentary voting, noting the focus was on delimitation, not the Women's Reservation Bill, calling for its 2029 implementation.
