Power Hike: BESCOM's New Charge Structure Revealed
Starting May 1, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) consumers face a power bill increase. KERC approved a tariff adjustment allowing BESCOM to recoup a Rs 2,068 crore deficit from 2024-25. Customers will pay an additional 56 paise per unit, recovered through 'FY25 True up Charges' from 2026 to 2027.

Consumers of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) will see an increase in power bills starting May 1. This follows an order from the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), permitting BESCOM to recover a revenue deficit of Rs 2,068 crore for the financial year 2024-25.
Under the new pricing, electricity consumers for 2024-25 will need to pay an additional 56 paise per unit. BESCOM will recover these 'FY25 True up Charges' in equal monthly installments over the course of 2026-27.
Similarly, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) has also been approved to impose an additional 15 paise per unit to counteract a deficit of Rs 121.71 crore. The additional charges aim to address revenue shortfalls and ensure financial stability for both companies.
