Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday voiced his satisfaction at the defeat of the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, portraying it as a triumph for Tamil Nadu. He characterized this event as a precursor to the 2026 Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections.
Stalin expressed his confidence that the DMK party would secure over 200 seats in the upcoming state polls. He labeled the legislative defeat as an initial victory in what he described as a Tamil Nadu vs. Delhi battle.
The bill, which required a two-thirds majority to pass, was ultimately voted down as opposition parties overwhelmingly opposed it, citing Delhi's disregard for immediate implementation and alleged regional biases. The proceedings witnessed heated debates, with major political figures like Rahul Gandhi denouncing attempts to alter India's political landscape under the guise of women's empowerment.
