The Assam Jaitya Parishad (AJP) has revealed its initial slate of candidates for eight seats in the forthcoming state assembly elections. The list features party president Lurinjoyti Gogoi and working president, former Union minister Rajen Gohain.
Part of a Congress-led alliance, the AJP plans to announce candidates for two additional constituencies where the coalition will present a united front. Addressing reporters, Gogoi expressed concerns over the Election Commission's single-phase polls and short campaign period, seeing it as advantageous to certain groups.
The AJP accused the EC of undermining democratic principles by rushing the election schedule and limiting opposition campaign time. Party figures, including general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan, emphasized their ongoing commitment to defeating the ruling regime while continuing negotiations for more seats.
