A son of a local Congress leader was tragically killed, and another was injured, following a home invasion in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district early Friday morning, police reported.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 am when three masked assailants entered the Karhi village residence of Sammelal Kashyap, a former vice-president of a Congress block unit and a cement-sand trader. According to police, the attackers opened fire on Kashyap's sons.

Aayush Kashyap, 19, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while his younger brother, Ashutosh, 16, is stable after sustaining a hand injury. The local police have deployed massive resources to catch the perpetrators. Despite taking a small amount of cash, the motive behind this crime remains elusive as investigations continue.
