A 65-year-old woman was tragically killed by two leopards while collecting grass in Bamthi village, according to local officials. The victim, Sita Devi, was attacked around 9 a.m. on Thursday morning, with the leopards reportedly dragging her into a nearby forest.
The incident came to light when Munni Devi, another villager, noticed the leopards near the body and alerted the community. Villagers, upon discovering the mutilated remains, expressed fear and anger over the attack.
Residents criticized the forest department for not taking action despite previous reports of leopards in the region. Garhwal Divisional Forest Officer Rajat Suman stated that a response team was dispatched quickly, with intensified patrols and trap cameras being deployed. Orders have been issued to tranquilize the leopards or resort to lethal measures if necessary, and compensation for the victim's family is underway.
