Delhi BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal has sharply criticized the Congress for the defeat of a constitutional amendment bill aimed at facilitating a women's quota, labeling it a 'great betrayal' of Indian women.
Speaking at a press conference, Khandelwal accused the Congress, and particularly Rahul Gandhi, of playing politics with the women's reservation bill, which failed to pass in the Lok Sabha. The 131st Constitution Amendment Bill proposed to increase Lok Sabha seats and implement a 33% women's quota in legislative bodies.
The bill failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority, receiving 298 votes in favor and 230 against, out of the 528 members who voted. Khandelwal argued that this move was politically motivated and asserted that women's presence in governance is crucial for social justice and national development.
