A tragic incident struck Thrissur's Mundathicode as a lethal blast at a fireworks manufacturing unit claimed several lives. Reports indicate that at least 13 individuals have perished, with authorities expecting the toll to rise following DNA analysis of nine bodies and 32 recovered body parts.

District Collector Shikha Surendran confirmed the identification of eight bodies, handed over to relatives after post-mortem, and revealed that DNA samples are being collected. The blast, occurring ahead of the Thrissur Pooram festival, critically injured Praveen (45), who later succumbed to injuries in a hospital ICU.

Authorities are working to secure unexploded firecrackers while ensuring psychological support for survivors. Ongoing inquiries aim to ascertain the exact number of workers present during the accident, believed to be around 40, as rescue and recovery efforts continue amid challenging conditions.
