The Indian Army, in collaboration with the local police, successfully neutralized a potentially dangerous World War II-era bomb on Wednesday morning in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district, officials reported. The discovery of the 227-kg bomb was made by villagers on the bed of the Swarnarekha river in the Baharagora area on April 15, prompting police to seek military assistance.

Shankar Prasad Kushwaha, Officer-in-Charge of Baharagora police station, confirmed the bomb's successful defusal, stating there were no injuries or damages during the operation. Ajit Kumar Kujjur, SDPO of Ghatsila, explained that to defuse the explosive, Army personnel strategically dug a trench on the riverbed, placed the bomb inside, and safely detonated it after covering it with sandbags for containment.

Earlier in March, the Indian Army had defused two other bombs in East Singhbhum, also suspected to be from the World War II era. Both explosives, found within a 30-minute interval, were in metallic cylinder-shaped containers and were safely disposed of amid tight security. The bombs were discovered at a sand excavation site and a villager's house, officials noted.
