The Congress party has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of intentionally delaying the implementation of women's reservations in legislatures by tying it to delimitation. This assertion comes amidst calls from Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, who referenced a 2018 letter from then-Congress President Rahul Gandhi to Modi, urging immediate action on the women's quota.
Congress contends that PM Modi has not fulfilled this demand, arguing that the reservation bill, passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2010, has since been obstructed in the Lok Sabha. While initially backed by BJP leaders like Arun Jaitley, who deemed the bill 'historic,' the current government appears hesitant.
Highlighting the pressing need for female representation, particularly with the upcoming Parliament session, Congress implores Modi to set aside political differences and champion women's empowerment. They propose immediate implementation of the bill to ensure gender equity in Parliament before the next elections.
