In Manipur, clashes erupted on Tuesday between protesters from two tribal communities at the Senapati and Kangpokpi district borders. The unrest followed a shutdown initiated by a civil society organization.
Local police attempted to dismantle a roadblock set up by Naga volunteers as part of a three-day strike called by the United Naga Council. They sought to protest the April 18 killing of two individuals in Ukhrul district, sources revealed.
According to officials, violence erupted when residents of Changoubung Kuki village became involved, resulting in stone throwing between the groups. Shots were also fired amidst the chaos; however, the identity of the shooters remains unclear. The ensuing shutdown has disrupted normal life across Naga-inhabited areas including Ukhrul and several other districts.
