Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde on Tuesday accused Opposition parties of a grave injustice by defeating the women's reservation bill in Lok Sabha, claiming it denied women equal policy-making opportunities. She described this as a lost opportunity for the nation during a press conference at BJP's Thane headquarters.
Munde argued that the defeat represents a significant setback for women's rights, emphasizing that the bill's failure goes beyond political disagreement to touch on the essential issue of equity and recognition of women's capabilities.
The Constitution Amendment Bill sought to ensure 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, but it failed to pass on April 17, lacking the required two-thirds majority. Controversially linked to a delimitation exercise, the bill raised concerns over representation changes, particularly affecting southern states.
