Women activists from the Goa BJP took to the streets on Tuesday, expressing their dissatisfaction with the Congress party's stance against the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. This bill sought to secure 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
The protest, led by Suvarna Tendulkar, attracted hundreds of women voicing their concerns and marching to the Congress office. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant publicly criticized Congress for blocking initiatives that promote women's empowerment and benefit, referencing policies like the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Despite getting 298 votes in favor, the Constitution Amendment Bill could not pass due to the lack of a two-thirds majority required in the Lok Sabha. Opposition parties argue that the Bill, tied to delimitation, could reduce representation in southern states.
