A domestic help aged 40 has been arrested for allegedly stealing approximately 250 grams of gold jewellery from the home of an 82-year-old woman in Delhi's Keshav Puram region, the police announced on Monday.
The accused, Sukhwati, hailing from a slum in Lawrence Road, was apprehended at her residence. The authorities reported that the entire stash of gold was retrieved from her possession.
Following a complaint by the senior citizen, an FIR was lodged at the Keshav Puram police station, instigating a swift investigation. Sukhwati became a suspect in the case and, upon interrogation, admitted to the theft, driven by the lure of easy money. Notably, she has no prior criminal record, and further investigation continues.
