In a significant step toward building a more informed and compliant taxpayer ecosystem, the Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Delhi organized a high-impact outreach programme in New Delhi to promote financial literacy and awareness of the newly introduced Income Tax Act, 2025.

The initiative focused particularly on provisions relevant to educational institutions and charitable trusts, sectors that play a critical role in social development and require clarity on evolving tax regulations.

Over 80 Schools Participate in Stakeholder Engagement

The programme saw active participation from representatives of more than 80 schools across the Delhi–NCR region, along with trustees and administrators associated with educational and charitable institutions.

The large turnout underscored the growing need for clear guidance and engagement as stakeholders adapt to the new legislative framework.

New Tax Law Aims to Simplify and Digitise Processes

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Pallavi Agarwal, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), outlined the key features of the Income Tax Act, 2025.

She emphasized that the new law is designed to:

  • Simplify compliance procedures

  • Reduce ambiguities in tax provisions

  • Promote greater transparency and accountability

  • Enable technology-driven, streamlined processes

The reforms, she noted, are aligned with the government's broader vision of "Viksit Bharat 2047", aiming to create a modern, efficient, and taxpayer-friendly system.

Focus on Educational and Charitable Institutions

Special attention was given to tax provisions impacting schools, trusts, and non-profit organizations, which often face complex compliance requirements.

Officials highlighted that the new framework seeks to provide greater clarity and ease of doing operations for such entities, while ensuring accountability and proper utilisation of funds.

Engaging the Next Generation: "Tax Your Brain" Quiz

In an innovative move to promote tax awareness among youth, the department organized an inter-school quiz competition titled "Tax Your Brain – Income Tax Quiz" for students of Classes IX to XII.

The competition featured multiple rounds testing students' knowledge of taxation, governance, and financial literacy. Winning teams were felicitated with awards and certificates, while all participants were recognized for their enthusiasm.

Officials noted that such initiatives are crucial in building early awareness about taxation and civic responsibility, preparing students to become informed citizens.

Strengthening a Culture of Compliance

The outreach programme reflects the Income Tax Department's ongoing efforts to move beyond enforcement toward proactive engagement and education.

By interacting directly with stakeholders, the department aims to:

  • Improve understanding of tax reforms

  • Encourage voluntary compliance

  • Build trust between taxpayers and authorities

Toward a Transparent and Taxpayer-Friendly System

The initiative aligns with the broader principle of "Saral Kanun, Shashakt Bharat"—simplified laws for a stronger nation.

As India modernizes its tax framework, such outreach programmes are expected to play a key role in ensuring that reforms translate into ease of compliance, transparency, and efficiency on the ground.

With increasing digitization and stakeholder engagement, the Income Tax Department is positioning itself as not just a regulator, but a facilitator of informed and responsible financial participation.
