Rima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament with France's far-left political party, is set to face trial in July for a controversial social media post. The Paris prosecutor's office disclosed that Hassan's commentary on a 1970s airport attack could be seen as promoting terrorism.
The post, now deleted, related to a 1972 incident at Tel Aviv's Lod airport orchestrated by the Japanese Red Army, leading to 26 fatalities. Hassan invoked the remarks of a convicted individual involved in the attack, citing Palestinian oppression. This communication prompted legal action from anti-racism and Jewish organizations.
Her lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, announced a Friday press conference to discuss the case. Meanwhile, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez emphasized the importance of not apologizing for terrorism. Hassan, of Palestinian descent, faces additional scrutiny over alleged hate speech and drug possession unrelated to this incident.
