Historic Recognition: Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh's Sole Capital

On Thursday, Parliament approved a significant bill designating Amaravati as the new and sole capital of Andhra Pradesh, with the Rajya Sabha endorsing the legislation. Almost all political parties, barring the YSRCP, backed the proposal, marking a pivotal move in the state’s reorganization efforts.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, highlighted the Assembly's request to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act of 2014, to recognize Amaravati as the capital from June 2024. Rai congratulated the citizens on this milestone, envisioning a progressive future for the state.
Debate participants celebrated this decision, crediting Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's visionary leadership. While many applauded the initiative, some expressed concern about unresolved issues regarding farmer compensation. YSRCP opposed the bill's current form, fearing it overlooks crucial agricultural concerns.
