The Department of Posts celebrated a landmark moment in its institutional history with the Platinum Jubilee of the Postal Training Centre (PTC), Saharanpur, marking 75 years of excellence in capacity building and postal training, alongside the release of a Commemorative Postage Stamp by Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
The commemorative stamp was unveiled at Rang Bhawan Sabhagaar, Akashwani Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of senior officials including Director General Postal Services Shri Jitendra Gupta, Member (Finance), DCC Shri Manish Sinha, CGCA Ms. Vandana Gupta, and Member (HRD) Col S. F. H. Rizvi, among other dignitaries.
A Legacy Institution Shaping India's Postal Workforce
Describing the occasion as a "historic milestone," Shri Scindia emphasized that the Postal Training Centre is not merely a training facility but a living institution that has evolved alongside the nation.
"This celebration reflects the enduring contribution of the Postal Training Centre to nation-building," he said, highlighting its role in strengthening administrative efficiency and public service delivery since independence.
Established on April 2, 1951, PTC Saharanpur was among the earliest structured training institutions set up in post-independence India. It replaced informal, on-the-job learning systems with a professional, institutionalised training framework, laying the foundation for a modern and efficient postal network.
Training Backbone for Northern India
Spread across a 56.71-acre campus, the centre has grown into a premier training hub serving postal personnel across eight States and Union Territories in Northern India.
Today, PTC Saharanpur trains nearly 3,000 employees annually, equipping them with cutting-edge skills aligned with the evolving needs of India Post, including:
-
E-commerce logistics and parcel management
-
Digital operations and IT-enabled services
-
Financial inclusion and banking services
-
Customer-centric public service delivery
The institute is equipped with 11 advanced computer laboratories and a specialised e-Studio, enabling blended and digital learning methodologies—reflecting the Department's shift towards technology-driven operations.
Aligning with India's Logistics Vision 2030
Highlighting the future roadmap, Shri Scindia underscored India's ambition to emerge as a global logistics powerhouse by 2030, with India Post playing a critical role in this transformation.
With over 1.5 lakh post offices—the largest postal network in the world, the Department of Posts is increasingly integrating logistics, e-commerce delivery, and financial services into its operations. Institutions like PTC Saharanpur are central to this transformation, ensuring that the workforce is skilled, adaptable, and future-ready.
Stamp Release Celebrates Institutional Heritage
The release of the commemorative postage stamp not only honours the legacy of PTC Saharanpur but also symbolizes the evolution of India Post from a traditional mail service into a multi-dimensional logistics and digital service provider.
The stamp is now available at Philatelic Bureaus across India and can also be purchased online through the Department's official portal.
Bridging Tradition and Modernisation
Over seven decades, PTC Saharanpur has consistently adapted to changing technological and administrative demands—moving from basic postal training to advanced modules in digital systems, logistics management, and financial services.
The institution continues to instill core values such as discipline, reliability, and public service, while simultaneously preparing employees for the challenges of a rapidly digitising economy.
A Milestone in Capacity Building
The Platinum Jubilee celebration underscores the importance of institutional training in governance and public service delivery. As India accelerates its digital and logistics ambitions, the role of such training centres becomes even more critical in ensuring efficiency, innovation, and service excellence.
With a strong legacy and a forward-looking approach, PTC Saharanpur stands as a testament to India Post's enduring commitment to capacity building and national development.
