Trinamool Congress MP Nadimul Haque took a stand in the Rajya Sabha session on Thursday, voicing concerns against the BJP's Jan Vishwas (Amendment and Provisions) Bill, 2026. Haque accused the government of undermining legislative integrity by merging 79 central laws into a single amendment.
Haque expressed concerns regarding the bill's tendency to replace criminal liability with monetary penalties, suggesting it introduces class bias. He argued that the amendments disregard important health and environmental regulations, revealing that the government ignored crucial recommendations from the Select Committee.
Furthermore, Haque highlighted financial discrepancies and called out the Centre for an outstanding Rs 2 lakh crore owed to West Bengal. He criticized the home minister's political strategies and called for accountability from the central government.
