Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Smt. Raksha Khadse, today lauded the Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026 as a transformative platform empowering tribal youth, describing the atmosphere as one of "energy, hope, and transformation."

During her visit to Raipur, the Minister praised the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and organisers for successfully hosting the event, noting the overwhelmingly positive response from athletes, local communities, and the wider region.

Platform for Tribal Talent

With participation from over 2,500 athletes representing all States and Union Territories, KITG 2026 has emerged as a landmark initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing tribal sporting talent.

Smt. Khadse emphasized that the Games reflect the government's commitment to ensuring inclusive development through sports, particularly for underserved communities.

"For the people of this region, these Games represent a new hope—a signal that their talent is being recognised and supported at the highest level," she said.

From Conflict to Opportunity

Highlighting the changing narrative of the region, the Minister noted a shift from past challenges to a future driven by opportunity:

"There was a time when Chhattisgarh was associated with Naxalism. Today, a new direction is emerging. Through sports, the youth of this region can channel their energy and represent the nation with pride."

Strong Push from National Leadership

The Minister credited the vision and support of:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah

  • Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya

  • The Sports Authority of India (SAI)

She described KITG 2026 as a landmark initiative that will serve as a stepping stone for athletes to compete at Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.

Women Athletes Lead the Way

A standout feature of KITG 2026 has been the dominant performance of women athletes, particularly those emerging from the Asmita League, a flagship initiative launched in 2021 to promote women's participation in sports.

Key highlights:

  • 60–70% of girls in hockey and football are Asmita League medal winners

  • Notable performer: Anjali Munda

  • All five gold medals in swimming won by Asmita League athletes

"These results clearly show the impact of targeted grassroots programmes in empowering women through sports," the Minister said.

Expanding the Asmita League

Reaffirming the government's commitment, Smt. Khadse stated that efforts are underway to expand the Asmita League deeper into rural and tribal areas, ensuring:

  • Greater female participation in sports

  • Enhanced access to competitive platforms

  • Long-term athletic development at the grassroots level

Sports as a Tool for Nation-Building

The Khelo India Tribal Games are increasingly being seen as more than just a sporting event—they represent a social transformation initiative, integrating:

  • Youth empowerment

  • Women's participation

  • Regional development

  • National integration through sports

As India continues to invest in grassroots sports infrastructure and talent identification, initiatives like KITG 2026 are expected to play a crucial role in building the country's next generation of elite athletes.
