Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the communal tension that has enveloped Uttam Nagar, Delhi. The situation in this area turned volatile after right-wing groups began demanding violence against the local Muslim community. Her call comes in response to an alarming climate of fear that has led many Muslim families to flee from the threat of impending violence.

The unrest initially started after a water-related altercation during Holi led to the death of a 26-year-old named Tarun. The conflict began when a water balloon, hurled by a girl from Tarun's family, hit a woman from a neighboring family. This incident sparked protests led by Hindu organizations, culminating in the torching of vehicles belonging to the accused family members.

In response, police have detained 14 individuals, including two minors, linked to the killing. Security enhancements around Uttam Nagar East metro station have been implemented following the Delhi High Court's directives for heightened vigilance during the festival season. These measures aim to preempt any further disruption and unrest within the community.
