Mizoram's Calamity Toll: 16 Lives Lost, Homes Destroyed
Mizoram experienced 16 fatalities and severe property damage from natural disasters within the last year, according to State Disaster Management Minister Lalnilawma. The state government paid Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and compensated 581 affected households for destroyed homes due to diverse calamities.

Mizoram has faced a challenging year with 16 people losing their lives and significant property damage resulting from various natural disasters. State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Lalnilawma provided these details to the Assembly on Thursday.
In response to a question from opposition Mizo National Front legislator K Laldawngliana, the minister explained that the state government has offered financial aid to the families of the deceased, issuing ex-gratia payments of Rs 4 lakh each.
Lalnilawma also highlighted that 581 homes were devastated due to landslides, rain, cyclones, and other disasters over the past year, with families receiving compensation based on the damage severity and house category, ranging from Rs 1.3 lakh to Rs 4,000.
