In a disturbing incident from Thane district, Maharashtra, police have filed a case against a man accused of molesting a 13-year-old mentally challenged girl. The alleged crime took place in December in Bhiwandi, though it was reported only in March by the victim's mother, who did not clarify the reporting delay.

Officials from the Kongaon police station revealed that the victim and her sister were visiting a relative's house when the accused, apparently exploiting the girl's intellectual challenges, allegedly engaged in inappropriate contact.

The case has been registered under sections 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, police confirmed. The investigation into this unsettling case is currently underway.
