Senior NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil criticized the Maharashtra government's budget, unveiled by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, for lacking significant support for farm loan waivers, rural development, and social welfare. Patil voiced his concerns in the state assembly, accusing the ruling Mahayuti coalition of falling short of its promises, particularly to farmers.
The presented budget, amounting to Rs 7,69,467 crore, aimed for Maharashtra to become a USD 5 trillion economy by 2047. However, Patil highlighted the discrepancy between promises made during election campaigns and actual budget provisions, noting that the pledged farm loan waiver of Rs 5 lakh had been reduced to Rs 2 lakh.
Patil further criticized the government for its 'contradictory approach' to fiscal management, citing underfunded social welfare sectors amidst rising state debt. He stressed the need for the government to address challenges posed by technological changes like artificial intelligence, urging a more inclusive budget approach.
