In a significant move to combat defamation on social media, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared the creation of a specialized committee led by the Director General of Police. This initiative was revealed during a legislative assembly session focused on addressing the state’s rising cybercrime issues.
The newly formed committee will delve into the complexities of online defamation and propose actionable strategies to handle such cases. The announcement was part of a broader discussion in the assembly, where Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, alerted members to the evolving tactics of cybercriminals using advanced technologies.
Complementing this effort, the government has introduced a mobile application designed to boost public awareness and vigilance against cyber threats. The application will facilitate the dissemination of approximately 21 crore informative messages each month to inform citizens about cyber threats and preventive measures.
