Delays in Scholarship Verification Halt Education Progress in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, more than 93,000 scholarship applications are currently awaiting verification, a situation that the state government attributes to issues such as students failing to submit required documentation or making errors in their application process.

The Higher and Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil, informed the legislative council that this has adversely affected around 1.42 lakh students over the past five years. The delay raises concerns over potential financial barriers leading to increased dropout rates.

On a positive note, Patil highlighted that, following directives to accelerate the verification process, progress has been made on nearly 49,057 applications. Efforts continue to address backlog cases to ensure that government funds are efficiently distributed and students receive the financial support needed to continue their education.
