Congress MP Slams Lok Sabha Speaker's Conduct

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday launched a scathing criticism of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, accusing him of partisanship and biased actions against opposition women MPs. Initiating a debate to remove Birla as Speaker, Gogoi expressed that this move was necessary to protect parliamentary dignity and the Constitution.

Gogoi alleged that Speaker Birla interrupted Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during critical discussions, thereby stifling parliamentary free speech. He cited instances where microphones were turned off, notably for MP Shashi Tharoor, deeming such actions contrary to parliamentary tradition and freedom of speech.

Gogoi also highlighted alleged prejudice against women MPs, calling out a 'paternalistic' tone in the House. The Congress leader criticized the environment leaving opposition leaders speechless, underpinning it as a sign of weak leadership by the current government.
