The Madhya Pradesh assembly was engulfed in turmoil on Thursday as opposition Congress members demanded the resignations of two state ministers over the deaths caused by contaminated water in Indore. Admitting to the severity of the crisis, the state government revealed that 22 people have succumbed to waterborne diseases.
Although a report to the MP High Court by the BJP government led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that 16 individuals died from the outbreak, the Congress claims the toll is as high as 35. Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar had to adjourn the proceedings twice amid the chaos ignited by these contentious figures.
Health Minister Rajendra Shukla confirmed the deaths and stated that compensation has been paid, with future increases possible. Despite attempts for resolution, Congress members persisted with their protests, contesting the responsibility and adequacy of actions taken, leading to further disruptions in the legislative assembly.
