The Delhi High Court granted the Centre and the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi additional time to pursue diplomatic efforts regarding the detention of Major Vikrant Jaitly, brother of actress Celina Jaitly, in the UAE. The embassy had previously requested consular access, which was denied, and now awaits a new date for a meeting.
The Centre's legal representative sought a period of 3-4 weeks to enable the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy to effectively engage with UAE authorities. The judge found the request reasonable and postponed the hearing.
Celina Jaitly filed a petition for legal representation for her brother, alleging illegal detention since September 2024. Major Jaitly's wife also requested to become a party in the case. The court emphasized it won't turn into a family dispute, and has scheduled further hearings for March.
