The Delhi High Court has temporarily suspended the sentence of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in a cheque bounce case. Granted on Monday, the interim relief will extend till March 18, requiring Yadav to post a personal bond worth Rs 1 lakh along with a surety of the same amount, as directed by Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma.

Yadav's sentence suspension comes after Rs 1.5 crore was deposited in the respondent's bank account, following confirmation from the legal representative of M/S Murli Project. This move aims to address the bounced cheque amount, with further hearings scheduled on March 18.

During prior proceedings, Yadav's counsel indicated a preparedness to deposit Rs 1.5 crore unconditionally via a fixed deposit receipt. However, Justice Sharma required the payment through Demand Draft, acknowledging prior deposits of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 75 lakh by Yadav.

The High Court has previously demanded a response on Yadav's bail plea, with the matter adjourned for further consideration due to ongoing issues, such as unfulfilled commitments. A review revealed that previous court orders had been challenged, but the Supreme Court did not provide relief.

Reflecting on prior leniency, the High Court had instructed Yadav to surrender due to repeated breaches of agreements regarding settlement payments. Initially suspended to foster settlement, the sentence was reinstated after recognizing unmet obligations amidst a series of cheque dishonour cases.
