A notorious contract killer wanted for the murder of a fertiliser trader was shot dead during an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday night. The confrontation occurred on the Bariyasanpur Ring Road in the Chaubepur area.

According to Additional Director General of Police (STF) Amitabh Yash, the accused, Banarasi Yadav, was a known sharpshooter carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head. Yadav sustained gunshot wounds in the shootout and was later declared dead at a nearby hospital. Police recovered two pistols and many cartridges from the scene.

Yadav faced over two dozen criminal charges, and his accomplice, Arvind Yadav alias Fauji, is still at large. Police have launched a manhunt and registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST Act at Sarnath Police Station. Investigations continue as authorities conduct raids to capture the remaining fugitive.
